Flying Pig Half-Marathon

May 6, 2012, Sunday, at Cincinnati, OH, USA, Sunny @ 15C

Such a beautiful day for running.
My hosts, Jeff and Julie, told me that the prior weather of race day was raining, always.
How lucky am I, I had a good day this time.

But, I didn't sleep very well, and I woke up very late.
I set up the alarm at 4am, but I forgot to set up the DATE, then I woke up at 5am, and Julie drove me to the downtown at 5:30am. BRUTAL!!! DAME!
6:00am on May 6, 2012
wow, lots of ARMY came here for supporting this PIG RACE.

Lonely fighting
ps. did you see my shirt? that is a shirt with NYPD. ha
I brought that from the 2011 New York City Marathon.

 @6:30am, runners started moving....

I don't get it, why all marathons would start from the bridges?
In the flying pig marathon, they starts with 3 bridges. Thanks!

OKay, I didn't take lots of pictures from this race, because of my lazy.
Piggy dressing

Actually, half marathon is not too hard, but if marathon with lots of hills, those hills will kill me ey.

I was behind my normal rate this time. I don't know why. So sad.

I came here for these. PIGGY MEDALS!

in front

in back

I know I am too crazy doing this.
I took 13 hours bus to Cincinnati from Toronto, I slept 2 nights on the bus.
Just came for this PIGGY MEDAL.
I think the USA and CANADA immigration should give me a certification of crazy runner/traveler.

After the race, I took the bus back head to Toronto, another long trip!!!  13 hours!!!

The day before the race day

May 4, 2012, Friday, Sunny day @ Cincinnati, OH, USA

It was my first time to visit Cincinati, OH.
Why Cincinnati? it's not a big city for visiting or shopping. why Cincinnati?
Because of this...

So I went to downtown to pick up my number.
wow... lots of stuff here ey.
Besides the number, I also picked up many P&G products today.
Because P&G is a biggest sponsor/company in Cincinnati.

a shirt, a backpack and a poster, these were from the organizer

a towel, a small pack and a bottle and pens, these were from K&K
These shit were from P&G, too many things....

By the way, it's my first to get so many things from marathon in north America.
These make runners happy!

Walking in the Cincinnati downtown, you can see these ceramic pigs.

Cincinnati is a small city, typically, visitors wouldn't visit in Cincinnati.
And finally, I found a city in North America without CHINA TOWN.
Yes, There is no China Town in Cincinnati, Japan and Korea town either.

* Cincinnati also called : The Nati, Cin City, Queen City, Porkopolis, or Home.

* What's up with Flying Pigs?
Cincinnati is affectionately known as ''Porkopolis" because the streets used to be a thoroughfare for pigs on their way to become the other white meat.
One by-product of bacon-making is lard, so some brilliant entrepreneurs started a little soap business, now the largest consumer packaged goods company in all the land, Procter & Gamble.
Cincinnati and the marathon embrace the pork past so you may see ceramic pigs or flying pigs adorning your path.

Thanks for my hosts, Julie, brought me a traditional food in Cincinnati.
In Skyline Chill restaurant.
This is a typical food in Skyline Chill.
Five-way : Spaghetti, chili, shredded cheese, diced onions and beans.
yummy?  Not too bad, but I'm not a cheese lover, I don't eat cheese too much.
If you were a gastronome, you would think these are trash food. (in fact, it's true)
American use lots of cheese in their meals, you can tell how easy to get fat in the States and Canada ey.

There are many different types to choose.

  • Bowl: chili in a bowl
  • Two-way: chili and spaghetti
  • Three-way: chili, spaghetti, and cheese
  • Four-way: chili, spaghetti, cheese, and onions
  • Five-way: chili, spaghetti, cheese, onions, and beans, and optionally,
  • Four-way bean: chili, spaghetti, cheese, and beans (beans substituted for the onions
